Introducing.....DANIEL ANGELUS

We have been emailing back and forth for weeks trying to work out the fine details of getting an interview with the man who created a gentle fuss in the USA and UK in 2010.

Here is a fact about Daniel Angelus.
He is not fond of interviews.

After two weeks of wiggling what this new blog will be about(honest & serious interviews with prospective passionate music artists) Daniel Angelus agrees to give us intimate and honest answers to the questions we have collected.

Electromance is the affectionate term given to Daniel Angelus unique brand of electronic pop.
Every song a powerful and deeply emotional ballad inspired by a series of dreams and real life tragedies.

Daniel Angelus began his journey in music in 2008 when he met pop producer David Emery and indie producer Chris Harding and began a long process of recording demo after demo for what would eventually become his long awaited debut album EMPIRE | GHOSTS.
The album comprises a severe mixture of minimal eclectic songs distorting a fuse of stories under the mock impression that the album is about a ''war between machines and humans''.
This long used joke however is how Daniel Angelus deals with interviews, some of which are mocked up from within.

It appears that this highly emotional music has nothing to do with ''machines at war with humans'' at all and focuses more on the trials and affectionate tragedies in Daniel Angelus personal life as well as what he has witnessed in world events and the lives of those he knows or once knew. This is possibly one of the most awkward and most emotional interviews i will do for my becoming a music journalist.

Do you find comfort in music?

Music is my life. I live and breathe music and my heart and soul are married to the recording studio and live touring. Besides another human, i probably wont feel another connection like it.
Music saved me and gave me reasons to believe.

Do you have a human connection?
That is private and has absolutely nothing to do with my music.

Tell us a bit about your past.
I was born. I had a shitty childhood and that is something that pours into my music. I had a shitty time at school surrounded by people who simply wanted to be popular and they stepped on the naive and easily vulnerable types. What they didnt know was that whilst they bullied and tormented me for being myself and whilst they picked on me for being the obvious poor boy that i visibly was, i was going home and being bullied and tormented further so.
So my life was pretty shit and quite tramatic.

These tell tale signs show in the demeanour and presence of Daniel Angelus.
A deep artist who is extremely intense on stage and shows songwriting ability that haunts the soul.
It becomes apparent throughout most of the interview that Daniel is eager to show enthusiasm and love for music and to drive home that music is why he is here with me. Any talk of the world or any approach towards his private life is met with a strong and powerfully brief honest answer and a awkward look to his 'friends' sat in the corner on red stools waiting to pounce at any moment and rescue him.
It becomes apparent that Daniel feels a deep connection to his music and style. This honesty seeps in immedietly when Daniel stops to wipe tears from his eyes on the subject of his 2nd upcoming album -
'I - HEARTBREAK'.
A mp3 player is produced which carries several tracks under 'hidden names' that will, over the coming months, be revealed to the world in a series of powerful ''photography shot motion music videos'' in stunning black and white telling true stories from the life of Daniel Angelus. These music videos are sent to me via secret links via YouTube and during the second video(CRY, CRY, CRY ALL NIGHT) i stop to gather my own tears.

It is clear that this artist means what he writes.
What does he write?
He writes powerful pieces of poetry portraying what generations of humans have felt and experienced many times before. He writes with such powerful honesty that it can feel abrasive and uncomfortable.
This may explain the reasons why this interview was relatively short and awkward.
I was asking questions that already had answers in the songs of the tall english new wave artist.

FIELDS OF FOREVER(find this song on the debut album EMPIRE | GHOSTS) was a underground hit with a growing worldwide fanbase showing support and understanding with a impressive viewcount for a artist who has no backing in the music industry except what is generated through touring and debut album sales and hard promotion. The lyrics depicting a domestic situation throttled by a sub story of suicide(''but your killing me my love/because you are close to killing you'') and the desire to run forever(''these fields run forever/i wish my feet would too'').

Daniel has shown true dedication to music by taking a small amount of money and a synthesiser to the East Coast of America in December 2009 and performing a small tour including shows in New York City with Australian pop artist Kylie Edmond. The Australian artist showed Daniel a lot about the music industry and the long enduring road to the venues on the tour. It shows with Daniel pulling a long stack of shows in the UK in 2010 before taking a 9 month break to concentrate on the upcoming 2nd album and to ''make mistakes and fuck up beyond all comprehension''.

What that means is far and distant to me, but it seems that Daniel Angelus will probably tell all in his next few solo albums.

Not everyone is sold by the music. A brief google search of 'DANIEL ANGELUS' finds us reading network forum posts attacking Daniel's private life and there are even fiercer reactions from fans of the young new wave star.

How do you react to your critics?
I really dont give a shit. They are no better than the mean spirited people who tried for years to pull me and other beautiful souls apart. I see no good in writing a load of misled and untrue shit on a forum or website. I am here to give music and emotion on stage and offstage through a special forum. That forum is music and my words are experiences that i have survived. If it heals people then my goal is achieved. If i perform 1000% every night or day and give new music lovers and the genuine fans a memorable experience and a escapist experience then i will be the happiest soul alive. It may sound cliche but thats the truth and thats my goal.
My music may not please you and it may not be for you, but if you feel it, link to it and understand it, then i will forever be putting albums out and touring those songs, experiences and emotions in the truest form. To your face. And i will probably do that if knowone gives a shit anyway. Because i love music . I have a dream. I will achieve it if i believe.

It was at a show in 2010 that a heckler told Daniel Angelus to ''fuck off so the good band can play''.
The reply through the microphone was simple and effective.
''I do this for you''.
The reaction shocked the small crowd that was flagging. By the end of the show Daniel had commanded the whole audience through his show and the applause testified that he was warranted a reward for the sweat and lack of energy that was left after a exhausting half hour of constant powerful vocals, tears and energetic unique dancing.

This is a truly unique artist.
One to watch.

Daniel Angelus second album 'I-HEARTBREAK' is out on November 11th 2011.
The debut album 'EMPIRE | GHOSTS' can be bought now on iTunes and Spotify.
